Breast reduction or mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure to reduce the size of the breasts by removing fat, skin and breast tissue, making them smaller, lighter and firmer. It can also reduce the size of the areola (nipple).
Women with large breasts may have some problems due to this excess weight, such as back pain and neck, irritation of the skin below the breast and respiratory problems. The purpose of the reduction-mammoplasty, is providing women smaller breasts and some with a more proportional size to the rest of their body. The purpose of the intervention is the reduction and reshaping of the breast, placing the nipple-areola in the correct position.
